Learn how Afterword can quickly help you turn Podcasts, Audiobooks, Interviews, and Lectures into Blogs and Social Media Content

The problem

As a journalist-turned-content marketer, I've spent the last 7 years working with organizations like World Health Organization, The Economic Times, and AsiaBerlin (part of the German Senate). Blogs, social media content, long-form articles, videos, podcasts, I’ve done it all. One area that has been challenging is - distilling extensive 2 hour panel discussions into concise, succinct written material for different media formats. The task is particularly daunting when there are multiple online sessions happening simultaneously.

Step 1: Transcription

While covering live online events, my method is simple. Focus on one. Use a transcription software like Otter for the rest. But even the transcript for a 2-hour session is more than 20k words! It’s overwhelming. AI summarization tools saved me. 🤩💕

The issue with ChatGPT

ChatGPT can only handle about 3,000 words at a time, which means I need to manually copy paste 3,000 words seven times over, being careful not to exceed the limit. It's quite annoying.

Additionally, ChatGPT tends to paraphrase when summarizing and it's very difficult to control the length of the summary. Also, there are times when I need to quote speakers almost word-for-word, especially when pulling out short video clips for social media. So for this purpose ChatGPT doesn’t work.

Thankfully, I had access to the alpha version of Afterword! 🎊

How Afterword helps

Afterword, proved to be a game-changer. It enabled me to condense lengthy transcripts into a manageable format, complete with headings and bullet points. It provided several summary options of varying lengths, allowing me to choose the one that suited my marketing requirement (short bullet points for LinkedIn post, but a 1000 word summary in paragraphs for the blog). The made it much easier to identify key points and themes in the discussions. As a result, I was able to efficiently create social media posts, write articles, and extract quotes and short video clips for various platforms.

In 2024, all brands want to be present on all channels. There’s got to be blogs with SEO friendly words on the website, good PR copy/summaries of events to send to journalists, and text/posts of different lengths for LinkedIn, Instagram, Twitter. So you need a quick way to summarize your information.

I was able to save approximately 12-18 hours per week because of Afterword. With the quicker turnaround time and higher-quality content, my clients were also happier. The time that I saved, I was able to spend on packaging and creative thinking, which improved the impact of the marketing content.

In essence, Afterword turned out to be a straightforward solution, simplifying my content marketing journey.
